Part 2 of the New Zealand series. We flew to Queenstown to experience the wineries, mountains, and the Milford Sound.
Milford Sound – We booked a Flight-Cruise-Flight which allowed us to experience the Sound from Queenstown in one day. We had a scenic flight on a small plane with 8-10 people over Gelnorchy and the mountains of Otago and Southland. Then we went on a ferry cruise through the Milford Sound, saw some waterfalls and seals, and then hopped back on the plane back to Queenstown. I definitely recommend if you’re on a tight schedule and want to see it all on a short itinerary. Saves you the time of driving from Queenstown all the way around Lake Wakatipu to the Milford Sound.
Tiki Trail – There’s a gondola that goes up the Skyline, but we didn’t want to spend the money. So we took the Tiki Trail up the mountain to get to the top. It was a pretty rough hike but the views are worthwhile.
Queenstown Trail – The Queenstown Trail is an easy little flat walk around the lakeside. Good to checkout the shops in the area and the gardens.
Gibbston Valley Winery Tour – We booked a wine & bike tour in the Gibbston Valley. The bus picked us up from the hostel and took us to the Gibbston Valley Cheese & Wine where there were bikes for us to pick up and explore. We biked along the Kawarau River and tasted some wines and cheeses.
Food & Eats
The next few are some food recommendations for the area. Browse through the highlight reel!
Patagonia Chocolates – DEFINITELY get the Patagonia Special Sundae ($11 NZD). The meringue, strawberry, and chocolate go perfectly together.
Bespoke Kitchen – Stop by here for some coffee and snacks! This Beetroot Cheesecake is tasty AND vegan! I think Beetroot is a thing in New Zealand and I’m not opposed to that. 😋
FergBaker – My boyfriend is obsessed with meat pies, and after FergBaker, I’m hooked too. We ate here every morning. The crust on this pie is so unbelievably flaky. My favorites were the Hunter’s Pie (Duck & Venison) and the Pork Belly (Apple & Pork Belly).
FergBurger -Same people as FergBaker. We got the massive FergBurger that’s pretty much the size of my head. It was a good burger, but nothing to write home about in my opinion.
Cookie Time – There’s cookie happy hour from 6-7pm everyday!! My kind of happy hour. 🍪🍪
