France – Loire Valley

Drove through the idyllic mustard fields of the Loire Valley to checkout the castles and some wine.

(If you’re looking for Paris recommendations, head over here.)

Château de Petit Thouars – Cutest winery and castle!! The small castle was passed down through generations, and the grounds are now a winery. My favorite winery of the bunch that we visited. Majority of the wine in this region is the Chenin Blanc, a fairly acidic wine of which I’m not too big of a fan. I really enjoyed their Cabernet Franc and brought a bottle of that home.

Château de Villandry – Beautiful garden grounds, but the castle itself wasn’t anything special. Worth a visit.

Cave Monplaisir – A wine cave! It was really hot in France the week that we went, so it was a nice cool break from the sun inside the wine cave filled with barrels of wine. Free tastings and free to tour the cave.

Château de Chambord – Have a little picnic across the moat, overlooking the castle!

Château de Amboise – We stayed in Amboise, so we just swung by the castle at night to take a look. It looks like a Disneyland castle with it all lit up.

Château de Fontainebleau – Literally feels like you’re on the set of Beauty and the Beast 😱
